A fire occurred at 11:40pm on Tuesday night from a patient setting the mattress in their room alight. According to the hospital map, the blaze began in station 3. It injured 14 people including the suspect, hospital staff and emergency workers, although no other patients were hurt.

The injuries mostly occurred from smoke. The clinic’s staff initially fought the fire with a fire extinguisher. As a result, there was a strong smoke formation. When the fire brigade arrived, they were then able to extinguish the fire completely. This was accomplished without the hospital having to be evacuated.

The Italian 71-year-old who set fire to a mattress was arrested, and the fire commissioner took over the investigation and questioning of the suspect. The police stated that there is no indication of a political motive.
