An explosion occured in the restaraurant-club Sinatra Club 04 on Audre-Lorde-Straße in Kreuzberg early this morning. At the scene, police spokesman Martin Halweg announced that two hooded men had approached the venue at about 5 am and tried to break its front windows.
When they pulled the hinged window from its anchorage, they threw an object into the room inside. Something exploded inside the restaurant soon after.
They escaped the scene unrecognised, and nobody was hurt. Initially, nothing was known about the extent of the damage.
However, reports now state that the entrance area of the restaurant was badly damaged, as well as the windows. A large contingent of police was called to the scene, where traces of the explosion were secured.
The damaged restaurant is a smaller nightclub, the spokesman said, with some reports referring to the venue as a club and others as a restaurant.
Some outlets have reported the attack as a sign that organised crime is becoming more brutal in Berlin, with others claiming that it has reached a new level. But the background of the incident remains unclear.
