Almost every third car in Germany is stolen in Berlin
Around 4,300 fully insured cars were stolen in Berlin last year, that’s one vehicle almost every two hours. According to the German Insurance Association (GDV), this represents a 46% increase on last year.
Economically, the damage rose from 67 to almost 96 million euros within the year, meaning that, on average, insurers in the capital paid around 22,500 euros per theft.
Car theft is also on the rise in Brandenburg as a whole. Throughout the state, the GDV estimates around 1,300 cars have been stolen. That’s 20% more than in 2022, making Brandenburg the state with the highest risk of auto theft in Germany.
