Drunken lorry driver crashes vehicle, blocking traffic in the Tiergarten tunnel

On Monday evening, a lorry crashed inside Berlin’s Tiergarten Tunnel, blocking traffic for hours. Police said the driver was clearly intoxicated. The damage is extensive, and recovery of the vehicle is still under way.

The 57-year-old driver apparently attempted to exit the tunnel at around 20:00 but misjudged his route, leaving the vehicle jammed sideways. When rescue personnel arrived on the scene, the driver remains trapped in his cab. He was later taken to hospital with minor injuries. Recovery and repair work continued in the tunnel through the night.

According to the Berlin Traffic Information Centre, the tunnel exit towards Moabit remains closed. The Invalidenstrasse entrance towards Kreuzberg reopened at around 08:30 this morning.
