Drunk man arrested after giving Nazi salute outside Gedächtniskirche
A drunk man was taken into custody after harassing passersby and giving the Nazi salute in Charlottenburg on Sunday afternoon, according to reports by Berliner Zeitung.
The incident took place in front of the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche, not far from Zoologischer Garten, when a 56-year-old man started accosting bystanders. At around 4:30pm a witness called the police, who arrived promptly.
As officers led him away from the church, the man then gave the Nazi salute, and continued to shout and insult the two police officers. They then took him to the police station to establish his identity and carried out a breath alcohol test, which showed a value of around 0.9 per mill, confirming he was drunk. The suspect was released a short time later and police are currently investigating further.
