Drug ravioli: Police find illegal substances stashed in tinned food at Ostkreuz
Apparently, the first mention of ravioli can be attributed to a 14th century letter written by Italian merchant Francesco di Marco Datini who was an arms dealer during the Hundred Years War. It might seem appropriate, then, that the delicious stuffed pasta is still proving useful to international trade.
German police at Ostkreuz station in Friedrichshain stopped a 34-year-old man on Sunday evening at the train station and, after inspecting his luggage, discovered that he was transporting various drugs inside tins of ravioli. The cans had been fitted with a screw cap and weighed down with plaster from the inside. Also in his possession were several small ziploc baggies and a set of electric scales. The man was been arrested on suspicion of violating the Narcotic Act.
While we would not like to give advice to anyone breaking the law, a true pastaio would have surely made the dough themselves…
