Drug danger for dogs in Berlin Mauerpark?
Syringes and crack pipes can easily be ingested by curious dogs.
Is Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg becoming a “death trap” for dogs? That is the question put by a new report in the Tagespiegel, which describes how more and more animals are getting sick as a result of drug trafficking in the park. Drug paraphernalia like syringes and crack pipes can easily be ingested by curious dogs. They can even get sick ingesting the toxic faeces of drug users in the park.
Apparently, veterinary practices in the area have seen a rise in cases of dogs who’ve ingested drugs – and users in WhatsApp groups like “Dog-Talk” have also been making repeated complaints. In particular, dog owners want the city to do something to ensure there are safe areas for dogs to be let off the leash, with calls to install walls as high as those on Tempelhofer Feld, which would be much harder to scale.
