Could a Paris ban mean more e-scooters for Berlin?
From September 1, e-scooters will be banned in Paris. As a result, 15,000 vehicles will need to be collected from the streets and squares of the French capital. And where will they go? According to a report by rbb, there is some fear that the much-maligned vehicles will be headed for Berlin.
Back in April, Paris asked its residents whether or not they wanted to keep e-scooters and – while only 7 percent of Parisians took part in the survey – the results were decisive: 90% of respondents said they wanted to get rid of the vehicles. So will e-scooter companies like Tier, Lime and Bolt be bringing their French scooters across the Rhine?
It seems likely, even if the companies themselves say that Berlin’s overall numbers will not increase. Tier commented to rbb that they would exchange a large part of Berlin’s 5,000 e-scooters for newer models from France, while Lime said that they had not yet made a decision.
