Cocaine stashed in banana crates at seven Lidl supermarkets

On Thursday morning, employees at several supermarkets, both in Berlin and Brandenburg, made a surprising discovery while unpacking some boxes of bananas. Lying among the fruit they found some suspicious packages which, on closer inspection, contained an unusual white substance. This has now been confirmed as cocaine.

The drugs were found at eleven supermarkets in total: four in Brandenburg, seven in Berlin. Police did not provide information on the locations, but it has been reported that they were primarily Lidl supermarkets.

These finds follow on from similar discoveries last year where large quantities of cocaine were discovered at a fruit wholesaler in Groß Kreutz in Brandenburg. At that time, the packages were also hidden in banana boxes sent from South America, with the fruit apparently serving as camouflage for the drugs.
