Christian Lindner just killed a man’s dog

It’s been an eventful few months for Christian Lindner, the former leader of the FDP: he’s had a baby, brought down a government, and lost his job – but that’s not all. According to an article in Bild, he has also reportedly killed a man’s dog, running over a small Norfolk Terrier with his car outside an Italian restaurant in Charlottenburg.

Lindner – who is closely associated with Germany’s car industry and was recently revealed to have been exchanging regular text messages with the CEO of Porsche – actually drives a Mini, which might not seem the most threatening of vehicles. Unfortunately for him, the dog was also very small, and he apparently failed to see it while attempting to park outside his favourite Italian restaurant. According to witnesses, he behaved appropriately after the accident, seeking help for the injured animal.

The dog’s owner is also relatively well known: Wolf Bauer, a prominent film producer. The two men did not exchange contact details following the incident, with Bauer telling the press that Lindner “didn’t introduce himself.” During the recent election campaign, the FDP ran on a platform of deregulation and personal responsibility. His actions since may suggest he wasn’t entirely attentive to the latter.
