Mother admitted to psychiatric care after throwing child from third floor window
A 40-year old Berlin woman has been admitted to psychiatric care after apparently placing her one-year old child inside a cat carrier and throwing it from the window of her third floor apartment.
The incident took place in the Treptow-Köpenick district, on the southeastern outskirts of Berlin. According to police, the 21-month-old girl was found by a witness who alerted the fire department. The child was seriously hurt, but those injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
After investigating, police found the mother in her apartment and arrested her. There was no sign of the father but another child, aged nine, was handed over to the youth welfare office. The mother has now been admitted to a psychiatric facility.
