“Ceasefire now”: Palestine sit-in takes over Berlin Hauptbahnhof
The instructions shared by Global South United were simple. Anyone wanting to join the flash mob-style demonstration which took over Berlin Central Station on Tuesday evening should: “Bring your keffiyeh and flags but keep them hidden until seated” and “arrive in groups of max 3”. Police estimate that around 300 people took up that call, occupying level zero of the train station for around an hour from 17:00.
Chanting slogans such as “Deutschland, shame on you”, “Ceasefire now!” and “Free, Free Gaza”, demonstrators wore the keffiyeh and waved Palestinian flags, as seen on footage of the action which was widely shared on social media. Police reported that the demonstration was peaceful, with no incidents reports.
