In a social media video the CDU mixed up two rather similar looking buildings.

CDU posts video featuring Georgian presidential palace instead of Reichstag

On Tuesday the CDU posted a video on Twitter touting their new slogan – “For renewal. For cohesion” (stirring stuff). In the background of the video were happy kiddies playing basketball, a strangely ominous robot hand, green shoots emerging from the earth, Angela Merkel, and a majestic columned building with a glass dome looming behind it. The Reichstag? No. It was, in fact, footage of the Georgian presidential palace.

The video has since been taken down, and replaced with footage showing the correct building. The CDU also made a post on X (formerly Twitter) which read “Hey community! We had lots of domes to choose from – we’ve chosen the right one now”, accompanied by the grinning face with sweat emoji. We can only speculate as to whether any heads rolled in the advertising department for this little error.

Traffic for the post has increased significantly since the mixup took place, and it doesn’t seem like the error will have caused any damage to the CDU’s reputation.
