Cash transport vehicle robbed in Marzahn; suspects on the run

The attack occurred at around 22:40 on Sunday night in an industrial park off Marzahner Chaussee. A cash transport vehicle was rammed by another car, forcing it to stop. Several armed perpetrators then exited their vehicle and began shooting at the armoured van. Luckily, no one was injured in this dangerous heist, but the attackers were able to forcibly open the van’s doors and stole several boxes of cash.

According to police reports, the suspects set fire to their car and fled in another vehicle towards Neukölln. That getaway vehicle was later discovered, along with tools used in the attack and the stolen cash boxes, in a yard on Neuköllnische Allee – but the suspects remain at large.

Berlin has quite a lively tradition of armed robbery, with attacks on department stores, casinos, museums, and cash transport vehicles occurring with some frequency in recent years. The professional and meticulously planned nature of the attack lead police to suspect that in this case a link to organised crime is very likely.
