6,643 cars were stolen in Berlin last year, but which are the most popular?
Last year, Berlin set a new record for the amount of cars stolen in the last ten years. 6,632 vehicles were reported missing (including 612 trucks). But what type of cars were the most popular among thieves? It might seem a dubious honour, but Mercedes drivers can rest assured that their cars remain a connoisseur’s choice, with the big risers in last year’s theft statistics being Kia, Ford, Toyota and Hyundai.
On the other side of the ledger, Opel and Tesla were very rarely reported missing, with VW and Audi having seen a significant decline in popularity among the criminally-minded. As for where these crimes occurred, the safest districts were Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Mitte. In total, the estimated cost of all of Berlin’s stolen cars in 2023 amounted to 163 million euros.
