The story of Burgermeister is a textbook Berlin success story. What started in a disused public toilet booth under the U-Bahn tracks at Schlesisches Tor has since become a chain franchise widely regarded as having the best burgers in the city. They currently have over 30 locations and no intention of stopping at that.
After expanding in Berlin and throughout Germany, Burgermeister recently entered the Polish market by opening a shop in Szczecin, followed by another in Łódź (with further branches in more Polish cities in the works). They have now announced their intent to introduce Berlin burgers to the Austrian market as well, with the first shop in Vienna scheduled to open in the autumn. In the end, they want to have 20 locations throughout the Alpine country.
Austria and Poland are not the only places Burgermeister wants to grow in, however. The UK, Czechia, Spain and Scandinavia are also envisioned as target markets. Nonetheless, production will continue to take place here and there will be no major changes to the menu to suit local taste palates. “Every burger should taste […] just like it does in the heart of Kreuzberg,” said Robert Fügert, CEO of Burgermeister.
