The Berlin Fire Department has been conducting a major operation in the Siemensstadt neighbourhood of Berlin since early in the morning on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. A water main burst on Ohmstraße around 2:30am, and several thousand cubic metres of water leaked out of it over several hours.

The basements of at least 14 residential buildings and one industrial building were filled with water, and 1,200 residents had to evacuate their homes, as the buildings no longer had working electricity or running water. “Fortunately, no one was injured,” said a spokesperson for the fire department.

At the time of writing, the fire department is still on site with sandbags, pumping pipes, and 50 personnel. The operation is expected to continue into the afternoon.
