BSR resumes waste collection after strike
The Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) resumed waste collection on Monday morning after a strike halted services for several days. During the strike, uncollected trash piled up across the city, with overflowing bins and rotting waste attracting pests in some areas.
The strike affected not only household waste but also the collection of biowaste and recyclables, as well as street cleaning and public bins. According to rbb24, BSR’s 14 recycling centers were also shut, along with the city’s main waste treatment plants.
BSR typically removes around 3,000 tonnes of household waste per day, and with 1,300 employees and 350 garbage trucks now back on the streets, Berlin’s trash situation should gradually return to normal. However, BSR warns it may take several days before all areas are fully cleared.
