Brewdog’s tap has run dry – at least in Germany. Scottish craft beer manufacturer Brewdog is to file for bankruptcy in Germany, affecting Berlin bars and its brewery in Mariendorf.
The Brewdog Group, originally from Scotland, is also struggling to survive as a company in Columbus, USA, and Brisbane, Australia. In 2025, they incurred a loss of approximately €42.3 million. Simply, costs are running out.
The Berliner Morgenpost first reported the insolvency news, citing an email received by employees from Brewdog founder James Watt in February. The email made it clear that a provisional insolvency administrator would be appointed. They will explore the company’s next options. Talks are apparently underway with potential investors.
The upcoming insolvency will impact the bar on Ackerstraße in Mitte and the brewery in Mariendorf. The bar in Friedrichshain at Frankfurter Tor has been closed for about six weeks. Brewdog arrived in Berlin in 2016, initially with a bar, followed by its own production facilities.
