Biden visits this Friday, severe traffic restrictions expected
After Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit last week, Berlin will have to prepare for increased security measures again on Friday as President Biden arrives in Berlin. The trip was originally planned for last week but delayed due to hurricane Milton. Biden is scheduled to hit the tarmac in Berlin on this Thursday evening, with diplomatic meetings scheduled for the following day.
Severe traffic restrictions- a limited S-Bahn, road closures, and diverted long-distance trains- will disrupt Berlin travel. Since Biden is one of the few politicians with the highest security level in the world, the Berlin government is implementing significant restrictions, particularly around the Brandenburg Gate, Bellevue Palace and general government district during those days. Drivers should avoid the areas mentioned above and S-Bahn travellers should expect major disruptions, with the majority of trains either running less frequently, or not at all.
There will also be police snipers stationed on buildings, police surveillance on the Spree, dog squads, explosives searches, extensive drone defence and increased ID checks, among other measures.
