Berlin’s unemployment rate has dropped marginally from 10.3% in October to 10.2% in November, although the seasonal autumn upturn expected in the labour market has failed to appear, according to figures released by the Federal Employment Agency.

The capital recorded 217,967 people out of work in November, a 0.1% decrease of 2,249 people compared to the previous month. However, the figure represents a significant rise of 12,832 when compared to the same period last year.

Ramona Schröder, head of the Regional Directorate Berlin-Brandenburg, stated that the labour market continues to stagnate. “The usual autumn recovery is barely noticeable again in November,” she said, adding that “the economy lacks the momentum that would encourage businesses to take on new staff.”
