Last night, an uknown perpetrator shot at and seriously injured a 44-year-old man on Yorckstraße in Schöneberg. The victim was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and remains in critical condition as of this morning, while the police are still searching for the gunman.
On Sunday, witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in Hasenheide. On Saturday evening, a shooter targeted a teenager and an adult man on Hermannstraße, injuring both, and later the same night somebody shot bullets at a café in Schöneberg. On Friday night, a house in Spandau and a driving school in Tempelhof were subjects of gunfire. Earlier last week, gunmen shot up an auto parts dealership in Neukölln and a driving school in Reinickendorf.
Police are so far unsuccessful in finding most of the perpetrators. Even the new special units ‘Ferrum’ and ‘Telum’, established precisely to deal with such cases, remain for the most part ineffective against the rising numbers of gunfire violence.
While these shootings appear isolated from each other, they play into the disturbing trend of rising firearm violence in Berlin; 2025 saw a total of 1,119 cases of firearm use and 515 shootings in the city, a 68% increase compared to the previous year. According to police reports, gang and turf wars are likely the underlying cause.
