Berlin police investigate missing €80,000 from Kreuzberg precinct

Berlin police are investigating the disappearance of nearly €80,000 from a Kreuzberg police precinct after an officer noticed the money was missing from an evidence locker.

The cash, originally from an unresolved inheritance case, was supposed to be safely stored at the Friesenstraße station. But on Tuesday, when an officer attempted to place another item in the locker, the money was gone. The missing sum was immediately reported, triggering an internal investigation.

Initially handled by officers from another district – standard procedure to prevent conflicts of interest – the case has since been taken over by the anti-corruption unit. Crime scene technicians have already combed the area for clues, but whether any leads have emerged remains unclear.

While theft is a possibility, police warn against jumping to conclusions, suggesting the money may have simply been misplaced.
