Berlin police are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old in Hellersdorf. The incident is reported to have occurred in a flat on Neue Grottkauer Straße. Several men are suspected of being involved. A forensic team from Berlin’s State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has examined the building and the flat as part of the ongoing investigation.
A police spokesperson said the force “are conducting investigations on suspicions of a sexual offence.” One man was arrested in connection with the case but has since been released. Police have not provided further details about the decision to release him, citing the need to protect the minor victim.
The LKA has assigned a specialist unit to the investigation. Police declined to classify the crime as gang rape. Reports suggest at least two men may have sexually assaulted the 17-year-old, with a third person present at the scene.
According to sources, the alleged victim sought help from a female resident of the building on Saturday morning at around 08:15. The woman called for an ambulance after noticing that the 17-year-old had bruises and was struggling to stand.
Emergency responders reportedly became suspicious during their initial assessment, and the injuries identified indicated that the girl may have been the victim of a sexual offence. Police were alerted immediately and continue to investigate.
