Berlin launches city-wide campaign to curb dog waste in public spaces
The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg office has launched a campaign called Haufenweisen Kontrollen to remind dog owners of their responsibility to properly dispose of their four-legged friends’ waste. This initiative is part of a Berlin-wide effort to reduce and eliminate dog waste in the city.
Christopher Schriner (Grüne), the district councillor from Mitte, said that “dog waste in public spaces is unnecessary and illegal.” The campaign was launched to raise awareness and ensure that the issue is being taken seriously by the city.
In addition to increased controls, the law enforcement officers on site will provide information about the applicable rules and also point out the obligation to carry dog waste bags. The city has also raised fines – not picking up your dog’s waste or not carrying poop bags could cost you between €55 and €10,000.
