Bank heist in Charlottenburg, three suspects still at large
A daring daylight robbery unfolded in Charlottenburg on Wednesday morning, as three masked men targeted a bank and a cash transport van on Kantstraße in Charlottenburg. Armed with at least one firearm, police have been searching for the three perpetrators since they made their escape. No one was injured.
The getaway was anything but subtle, according to reports of the incident. The masked trio fled with cash cassettes in a black Mercedes, weaving through traffic at hight speed in the direction of Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten, eventually swapping vehicles. The drama didn’t stop there: later that day, a fire broke out in a Wilmersdorf underground garage where a torched Mercedes was found. It was afterwards identified by police as the first getaway car.
Berlin police deployed 50 officers to track the suspects and secure the crime scene. Authorities have established an online portal for witnesses and urged anyone with footage or information to come forward. The amount of cash that was stolen has not yet been established.
This isn’t the first high-profile cash heist in the area. A notorious 2021 Ku’damm robbery saw thieves disguised as sanitation workers walk away with nearly €650,000.
