Five Berlin men, aged 36 to 69, have been arrested for allegedly smuggling more than one ton of marijuana into Germany hidden among a coconut shipment.

Authorities discovered the illegal delivery at Hamburg’s port and tracked the packages to Berlin-Spandau, where special units arrested the suspects. Among those detained was the 69-year-old man to whom the shipment was addressed.

Berlin police and prosecutors announced the bust on Wednesday. The drugs have been seized. All five suspects appeared before an investigating judge at Tiergarten District Court on Tuesday, who ordered them held in custody.

Investigators say this is one of the largest drug busts in Berlin’s history. Berlin prosecutors could not immediately provide information about the marijuana’s black market value or origin.
