Berlin’s other home team: Austria v Türkiye to be shown tonight at fan mile
Until today, the large scale public viewing in front of the Brandenburg Gate known as the “fan mile” had been reserved for days on which the German national team played, or when there was a game at the Olympiastadion. Today, however, the two last 16 games of the Euros will also be played, largely in order to accommodate significant demand from Berlin’s “other” home team, Türkiye, who are going up against Austria tonight at 21:00.
Since Berlin houses the largest community of Turkish emigrants anywhere in the world, Türkei games always draw big crowds. Last time the team played, hundreds of football fans held informal celebration on Ku’damm after the final whistle. Austria have been one of the strongest teams in the tournament so far, however, so this game will be a tough test.
The fan mile at the Brandenbug Gate will also show the earlier kick-off, Romania-Netherlands, which will begin at 18:00.
