Antisemitic attack: Molotov cocktails thrown at synagogue in Mitte
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, unidentified perpetrators threw two molotov cocktails at a building on Brunnenstraße in Mitte which houses a number of Jewish institutions. No one was hurt, and – since the attackers missed their target, with the improvised weapons exploding on the road – the building was not damaged. Police were on site at the time of the incident, but they were not able to detain the suspects.
The address is well known in the Jewish community, housing the Talmud Torah school and the synagogue of the Kahal Adass Yisroel association. The area was cordoned off following the incident, with an increased number of police cars now patrolling the neighbourhood.
There was further unrest across Berlin. One protest saw hundreds of people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in order to protest the ongoing bombing of Gaza. On Sonnenallee in Neukölln, barricades were erected and fires set as protesters battled with police.
