Last night, gunshots were fired in two districts of Berlin. Perpetrators shot at a car in Reinickendorf, seriously injuring a 37-year-old man who was shot several times in the upper body. A shop was also shot at in Kreuzberg, but according to police, there were no injuries.
This week has seen multiple shootings in Berlin. On Wednesday evening, a hooded person shot at an apartment door in Köpenick. As it turned out, he was at the wrong flat and left a threatening note in the style of Pablo Escobar under the wrong door, mistaking his target. Thankfully, the couple and toddler who usually live there had moved out to Brandenburg months earlier.
Additionally, on Sunday, a hookah bar was shot at in Wedding, where a man was only slightly injured by glass shards, and shots were fired at a workshop in Neukölln. Again, no one was hurt.
Due to the increase in shootings over the past months, Berlin police founded the special unit “Ferrum” to tackle the rise in gun violence. Only a few days ago, Justice Senator Felor Badenberg (CDU) warned of a new threat of gang wars in Berlin, stating, “We now see rival gangs that visibly use violence on Berlin’s streets, be it by throwing hand grenades at clubs, be it by shooting at people, vehicles and even buildings.”
