Six men beat up a 33-year-old man in Berlin-Kreuzberg on Friday afternoon, apparently due to his sexual orientation. The attack took place in Görlitzer Park, and according to the police, the victim sustained minor injuries to his head and torso.
The incident comes amidst a surge in hate crimes against the queer community, with 2024 seeing a rise of 18% compared to the previous year.
The police state that three men initially approached the victim and questioned him about his sexual orientation. When he responded, they began to physically attack him, knocking the man to the ground.
Later, three additional men joined the attack, and two of the assailants used beer bottles to strike the victim. When a female passerby noticed the assault and called for help, the man was finally able to flee from his attackers.
The criminal police are investigating the case of grievous bodily harm, but the perpetrators remain unidentified.
