17 Trucks set on fire in suspected arson attack across Lichtenberg and Marzahn

In a dramatic overnight operation, 17 trucks were destroyed in fires on two industrial parking lots in Lichtenberg and Marzahn. Police suspect arson – political motivation has not been ruled out, said a spokesperson for the German Press Agency.

The fires broke out around 3am at separate locations: eight trucks burned on Gehrenseestrasse in Lichtenberg, while nine were set alight near the Pyramidenring on the Lichtenberg-Marzahn border. At least one location is tied to Cemex, a concrete company targeted in a 2023 arson attack over its involvement in extending the controversial A100 autobahn. A political connection is being investigated after a prior claim of responsibility from leftist activists.

Over 100 firefighters were deployed to battle the fires, which required extensive resources due to water access. Hose lines were laid over several hundred meters on Pyramidenring while tank fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fires on Gehrenseestrasse.

While the fires have been contained, police and fire services continue to investigate the cause. No injuries have been reported.
