150 meteorites per hour: Spectacular solar storm expected above Berlin
Over the next two nights, the Geminid meteor shower will be passing over Berlin and Brandenburg, peaking on Thursday night at around 8pm.
With around 150 meteorites soaring through the skies, the Geminid is considered the largest and most impressive meteor shower of the year. In theory, you should be able to spot 30 to 60 shooting stars, or about one every minute or so.
But according to the German Weather Service, the possibility of a sighting is actually pretty slim. Heavy cloud coverage tonight means you will have a better chance of seeing the meteors if you’re in the north part of the city. If you find yourself in the south section tonight, you’ll be lucky to see a few breaks in the clouds. Chances are better on Friday evening, though, with clouds expected to clear up.
