Featured at this year’s International Literature Festival, Greek writer Amanda Michalopoulou will be kicking off her week of readings Sep 16 (8pm) at St. Georges Book Shop with an excerpt from her most well-known novel, Why I Killed My Best Friend. The subtly titled book explores the coming of age dynamic that occurs between the eponymous two best friends – two foreign-raised adolescents living in Athens going through the tumultuous love-hate relationships that young girls can have.

For those with a fear of more intimate settings, the award-winning author will make her appearance at the International Lit Fest, presenting her newest novel about God’s Wife (Oct 17, 9pm) which imagines him with a lover, ultimately allowing the reader to re-frame their preconceived notions of a Heavenly Father.

Closing off the week, Michalopoulou sticks around for a second discussion, questioning our blind trust in the idea of literature, asking us to reflect on whether literature could be considered a religion. (Oct 18, 4:30pm) Not to be missed!
