Your Weekend: Ich, Bermuda and some freedom

Walter wants to remind everyone to not blow their load too early and end up like he did... thinking four ibuprofen pills are still not enough and trying to get you this blog before night falls.

A little bit of freedom goes a long way, which is why this blog is coming at you so late, dear reader. Originally I was mentally prepared to do have a work gig last night and therefore, no plans to enjoy the energy that is Berlin. But at the last minute I found out I had no such responsibility so I seized my new-found freedom with a little too much zest. When freedom comes unexpectedly and you don’t know what to do with it, be prepared to pay the price for “Carpe diem”. Here’s a list of things to do with your freedom this weekend…

Another action-packed Ich Bin Ein Berliner (Fri, Nov 5 @ SO36) comes your way featuring the bands of tomorrow that you haven’t heard of (yet), Gloria Viagra and Carlo Von Lynx as guest DJs, and the Eppo Fashion Concept, in which yours truly will be hitting the catwalk for. If you’re not in a Kreuzberg mood or don’t want to be overwhelmed by the variety, WhoMadeWho frontman Bon Homme (Fri, Nov 5 @ Postbahnhof) comes down from the North to rock you Scandinavian-wise with his electropop and eccentric stage persona. And on the softer side of things, there’s a whole evening of English literates dancing with words at the Poetry Hearings Festival (Fri, Nov 5 @ Kaffee Burger), which might be well-suited for a warm fall evening even if you aren’t just spent from the night before (like me). It also continues on Saturday.

For Saturday, I would gently nudge you to go check out the Chessboxing Championships (Sat, Nov 6 @ Festsaal Kreuzberg). I’m not really a sports guy but it’s weird enough to arouse my interest. Not sure what ‘Chessboxing’ is? Check out our feature and interview with two top contenders for Saturday night here. For more of a party, Berlin Music Days, or BerMuDa (Sat, Nov 6 @ Tempelhof) ends this night with a bangin’ blow-out at the site of the disgraced Berlin Festival. It might just be a taste of what you want before Berghain, but then again, Paul Kalkbrenner, Booka Shade and Thomas Fehlmann are pretty difficult acts to follow. And for the classier among us, don’t forget about the JazzFest (Sat, Nov 6 @ Hotel Savoy Berlin and loads of other Charlottenburg venues). It’s a four-day celebration kicking off this night with a homage to Jon Hendricks. Didn’t we all come to Berlin to celebrate Jon Hendricks?
