International Whores’ Day
PROTEST Standing together in solidarity with sex workers and allies, International Whores’ Day is an evening of music, performances, debauchery and resistance. Established on June 2, 1975, when a group of sex workers protested inside a church in Lyon, this Berlin event is by and for the community, plus those who want to support the safety and rights of whores worldwide.

Jazzdoor Strasbourg Festival
MUSIC Back for its 18th edition, the Jazzdoor Strasbourg Festival arrives at Berlin’s Gretchen club for a four-day belter of a festival. Representing the diversity of the French jazz scene, the acts fuse together electronic scores, classical influences, folk inspirations and Mediterranean fantasy worlds. The opening night includes Wakan+Amaury Faye and Nola Quartet featuring Herlin Riley.

Zebra Poetry Film Festival
FILM Since 2002, this pioneering festival has explored the space between poetry, film and new media through a dynamic programme of shorts, performances and exhibitions. Alongside screenings, audiences can expect poetry readings and media art designed to spark dialogue and reflection. In collaboration with Poesiefestival, this year’s House of Poetry programme centres themes of myth, grief and connection.

Outside the BigMac Vol. 03
CLUB A melting pot for anyone who considers themselves an outsider artist, this hybrid event features panel discussions, DJs, concerts and cups of tea. A highlight of the evening is the talk from vegan artist Cedrik Fermont about the influence of extra European musicians on Berlin’s music scene.

KeNaKo Afrika Festival Berlin

Open Day at Rotes Rathaus
OPEN DAY For the second time, the Rotes Rathaus opens its doors for a chance to see what goes on behind the city’s town hall under their motto “Our City. Our voice. Our democracy”. If you’re interested in the future of Berlin democracy, this could be just the ticket.

Queer & Friends
FESTIVAL Neukölln’s much-loved queer street party returns for the second year, taking over the kiez with drag shows, speeches, DJs, children’s readings and plenty of food and drink. Circus Elusion
CABARET Master of ceremonies Evilyn Frantic invites the weird, the wonderful and the downright bizarre to the freakiest show in town. Umweltfestival am Brandenburger Tor
FESTIVAL Mixing political urgency with environmental reflection, this year’s festival is dedicated to the ground we walk on, or more specifically, the soil beneath our feet. That hallowed ground takes centre stage across a programme of live music, educational happenings and eco-focused discussions examining our fragile relationship to the land. There’s also a Better World Poetry Slam, because apparently even the earth beneath us has something to say.

ADFC Sternfahrt
PROTEST If you’ve ever wanted to cycle down the Autobahn, now’s your chance. Joining thousands of riders, this joyful protest takes over stretches of the A100 and A115 with soundsystems, costumes and pure collective energy. It’s part demonstration, part rolling street party and unlike any protest you’ve probably seen before.

UNESCO World Heritage Day
MUSEUMS With guided tours, festivals and exhibitions across the city, UNESCO shines a spotlight on Berlin’s cultural heritage. This year, special focus falls on Museum Island as the Old National Gallery marks its 150th anniversary with an island-wide celebration of free tours, performances and public programming. It’s both a tribute to the past and a reflection on what these historic spaces mean for Berlin’s future.

KNIFE HEARTS
DANCE Bringing together three Egyptian and one Turkish-German dancer, this performance dives into Mahraganat – the explosive music and dance culture whose name translates as “celebrations” and “festivals”. Against a backdrop of rising racism and exclusion across Europe and beyond, the work explores how movement, rhythm and collective expression might offer another way of seeing the world.

Mary Jane Berlin
FESTIVAL Oh, sweet Mary Jane. In a city where cannabis consumption is legal, it feels only right that there’s a festival dedicated to exploring the many lives of the humble hemp leaf. Part trade fair, part entertainment programme, expect live acts, DJs and plenty of opportunities to celebrate the good stuff and learn alternative ways of using.

Open Day at Hamburger Bahnhof
ART The iconic gallery is turning 30 this year, and to celebrate the end of its terrible twenties, it’s throwing open its doors for a programme of free events. Tonight sees the opening and return of Berlin Beats, the summer garden programme that gets everyone dancing come rain or shine. Plus there’s the new exhibition Tausendmal Berlin, which shows more than 70 works from 50 artists from the gallery’s 30-year history.

Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival
MUSIC Taking place in Frederick the Great’s former garden paradise, these concerts, operas and guided tours weave together the theme of ‘Light’ into the UNESCO heritage site. With a grand programme and even grander locations (there will be fireworks in front of the Sanssouci Castle) it’s definitely going to go with a bang. If you’ve got a bike, you can join the bicycle concert, allowing you to move between the stages en masse.

Degenerate Art at the Schönhausen Palace
EXHIBITION Did you know that when the Nazi’s confiscated all the art they classified as ‘degenerate’, they sent it to Schönhausen Palace to be sold for profit? Now, a new extension of their permanent exhibition showcases the art works and provides back stories of the artists affected and censored by the Nazi regime.

Pankow Art Fest
ART Schönhausen Palace Park will see over 60 artists display their work over the course of two days at the annual family-friendly arts and crafts market, where everything from paintings to pendants will be on offer. Akademie der Künste goes Bellevue
ART The Academy of Arts (Akademie der Künste – ADK) will take over Bellevue palace for two weeks with a pop-up art gallery, showcasing politically symbolic art in the residence of Germany’s head of state. Kosher Street Food Festival

Elektropolis: Schöneweide and the Birth of Berlin’s Industrial Age
WALKING TOUR Curious about what made Berlin the once electrical capitol of the world, and put the spark in modern day electricity?
