The Grand Berlin recently became the first fine-dining restaurant in Berlin to introduce the new Luca Pay payment method. For operations manager Matthias Martens, Luca’s new payment function fits perfectly into The Grand’s overall concept of putting the guest at the centre. Find out how the app works and how you can get a 20 percent summer discount on your first payment.

Luca Pay: More time for satisfied guests thanks to easy payment

“It’s really a casual process,” says Martens when describing the payment process with Luca. The guest scans a QR code from the waiter’s smartphone and is shown the bill amount on his display. He selects the desired tip percentage from a menu and completes the payment digitally.

Matthias Martens sees this flow as part of an arc of tension: from the aperitif to the meal to the final digestif and coffee – the guest should spend a carefree time at The Grand, a time-out from everyday life. Nothing should interfere with this.

Scanning the QR code from the waiter’s smartphone is quick and contactless, but at the same time has something personal. “Eighty percent of the guests have positive memories of Luca from the pandemic,” says operations manager Martens, “and you hear the feedback ‘Oh, that’s easy!’ at every table.”

For him, it’s precisely this ease of use of Luca Pay that’s the kicker about the new digital payment feature. It doesn’t require credit cards and card readers, which speeds up the process and gives staff more time to take care of guests.

The Grand aims to ensure that guests always feel individually noticed and cared for. An intuitive payment process rounds out this high-end service. “An elegant solution,” Martens therefore calls Luca Pay, and perhaps the time saved will mean that guests will make a detour from the restaurant to the bar afterwards to enjoy one of the many cocktail classics from bar manager Giuseppe Mancino.

Receive 20 percent discount on your bill

If you download the app or pay with Luca Pay for the first time, you will receive a one-time 20 percent discount (maximum amount: 100€) on the total bill in a restaurant or bar of your choice until August 31, as long as you can pay with Luca Pay. Not only that, but when you select your tip amount, Luca doubles your amount – you only pay your selected amount.

Convenient payment in many Berlin restaurants

You can already pay with Luca Pay in many Berlin restaurants and bars. If you no longer have the app, you can download it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). As soon as you scan your first QR code, you can enter your contact details and desired payment method. Then you’re ready to go. Have fun feasting, discovering and paying!
