Walking along Gürtelstrasse, scaling the gritty eastern edge of Friedrichshain, you may have noticed strips of neon-coloured tape scattered along the sidewalk, and wondered where these could possibly lead. Indeed, these do end in the atelier of the Papillon ballet school, where you will find the latest installation of Little Pop Up, the stylish, charming pop-up fashion and art store for kids and their families.

A small screen nestled in white tulle displays whimsical animated films. Racks of clothing line the walls, while jewellery, accessories, and other twee trinkets are strewn across a table. Though kids’ wear is Little Pop Up’s main offering, a small selection of stylish pieces for moms is also available. Little Pop Up also doubles as an event and workshop space, hosting all kinds of family-friendly events. This Saturday, catch a choreographed fashion show (this is being held in a dance school, after all), followed by an English-language creative art and media workshop for kids, hosted by ArtSpecs Lab.

After running the successful popup store Play Love Pop, Greek-born Dimitra Zavakou went on to found Little Pop Up. Zavakou wishes to present brands and designers for kids that are not normally found in shops in Berlin. A quick peek at the selection revealed floaty little dresses from Madrid’s Mila and Tara, vintage and handmade accessories from Athens-based Milk n’ Cookie, and a handful of other labels from New York, Paris, and London, alongside some local names.

Little Pop Up will remain in its current location until May 26. Where to next? Most likely Friedrichshain again, though Zavakou hopes to one day set up shop somewhere in Kreuzberg. Whatever happens, however, Little Pop Up will remain as a travelling pop-up shop, as this concept has managed to gather a dedicated gang of followers and customers that, much like Little Pop Up’s target market, has only begun to grow.
