In 2014, after 35 years at MoMA, KINO! 2015 went independent.
This year’s German Film Festival at Cinema Village, which runs from April 9 to 16, includes 10 feature films that are according to the press release “like emotional rollercoaster rides ending on life-affirming highs.” Gripping thrillers, driven by young characters eager to make their mark on the world complete the wide-range line-up.
Curated by Zeitgeist Films distributor Ian Stimler, journalist Karl Rozemeyer and former co-director of the Sundance Film Festival Nicole Guillemet, the festival also showcases a German Short Film Night and panel discussions with some of the directors and actors.
Deutsches Haus at New York University will present The Lies of the Victors: A Conversation between Christoph Hochhäusler and Amie Siegel, moderated by Professor Ulrich Baer. Arne Birkenstock is the guest at the Goethe-Institut New York. The screening of her movie The Art of Forgery is followed by an exclusive panel discussion on art forgery.
Christian Zübert’s Tour De Force opens the festival on April 9 and the director will be there to introduce his film about a man attempting to exit his life with grace. The message of the movie is that nobody dies alone. “When one dies, there is a feeling of connection to other human beings,” Zübert once said during an interview.
