This past weekend, Karneval der Kulturen returned to Berlin with a bang! Here are some of the parade's highlights.

Berlin welcomed back its favourite street carnival after a three-year Covid hiatus. The parade kicked off around midday from the corner of Gneisenaustrasse and Zossener Strasse, headed towards Hasenheide, and wrapping up in the early evening on Hermannplatz.

You probably wouldn’t have guessed it if you were there, but this year’s carnival had been scaled down for cost reasons. That didn’t stop the crowds, with hundreds of thousands of spectators coming out to dress up, drink in the street and have a generally chaoticly good time!

We’re taking a look at just a few of the most eye-catching moments from this year’s Karneval der Kulturen. All photos by Makar Artemev.
