Where to get rid of the post-booze blues in Berlin

Had the night of your life but feeling like death the next day? We’ve put together a guide to the best places in Berlin to get rid of your hangover.

So, you partied like crazy and had the night of a lifetime – and probably way too many drinks. You know what they say: drinking is borrowing happiness from tomorrow. As ecstatic as you felt last night, you’re probably feeling just as miserable today. We’ve put together a guide to the best places in Berlin for the day after a night out, to help you shake off your hangxiety. However much you want to stay in bed all day feeling sorry for yourself, it’s best to get out there – trust us, it’ll help.

Step 1: a grand breakfast

Whatever your vice – scrambled eggs with bacon, a crusty slice of German bread with avocado mash, or even pizza for breakfast – once you’ve made it past the initial nausea, hunger usually kicks in soon after. If you physically can’t or don’t want to cook, you can grab a great breakfast at Two Trick Pony in Kreuzberg, lunch at Aviv030 or a Sicilian pizza with ridiculous amounts of cheese for dinner at Rasoterra in Wilmersdorf. These foods will replenish the nutrients and minerals your body lost last night and treat those hangover cravings.

Step 2: post-techno noise therapy

Embrace the calm after the storm. Whatever you end up doing, the key to surviving a hangover is taking it slow. Look for a quiet environment,  aside from your own couch. Co-reading spaces are perfect havens of silence. For example, Refuge Worldwide hosts a series called ‘Reading Room’, where DJs play mellow sets, and people lounge in comfy sofas with a book.

If you’re easing into the later part of your hangover, listening bars are a great option for a laid-back vibe. You can grab a hair-of-the-dog beer (not that we’d recommend it) or a good lemonade. Kwia on Maybachufer – which has basically become Neukölln’s living room in recent years – is especially worth checking out.

Step 3: keep it cool

Everyone knows someone like this: after a heavy night out, they jump into a cold shower the next morning and feel reborn. While cold water does stimulate circulation, the idea that it helps your body ‘detox’ is an urban myth. Still, cooling off can feel great and definitely boost your overall well-being. If you’d rather leave the house, you can take a dip on warm days at spots like Plötzensee in Wedding, Krumme Lanke in Zehlendorf or Halensee in Grunewald.

  • Krumme Lanke Krumme Lanke, Zehlendorf
  • Halensee Margaretenstr. 5, Grunewald

Keep it fresh

Perk of the cold season: Berlin’s cold air works wonders for clearing your head – whether you’re walking through Volkspark Wilmersdorf, across Tempelhofer Feld or to Mauerpark. Another option is a visit to a nearby public swimming pool with an outdoor cold-water plunge. Just don’t push yourself too hard in the lanes – too much effort can have the opposite effect.

  • Volkspark Wilmersdorf Am Volkspark 53, Wilmersdorf
  • Tempelhofer Feld Tempelhofer Damm, Tempelhof
  • Mauerpark Bernauer Str. 53, Prenzlauer Berg
