Berlin is a city that is full of opportunities, especially when it comes to your career. For those with aspirations to found their own business or rise through the ranks of an international organization, it’s one of the best places in Europe to base yourself.

But it’s a global city hiring from a global pool of talent, so it’s no surprise that competition is fierce. And while high-growth or flat hierarchies can help propel your career to new heights, you may find yourself in need of new skills and a broader professional network to help you succeed in your role.

If these challenges sound familiar, then it might be time to consider studying for an MBA in Berlin.

But don’t worry. That doesn’t mean you have quit your job. With a part-time MBA, you can have the best of both worlds and study while you work.

The part-time MBA explained

Part-time MBA programs are specifically designed for ambitious mid-career professionals who seek to balance work, study, and personal life — they’re a great option for those looking to develop new skills in leadership, general management and innovation that could improve their effectiveness in their current role. Though there are scholarships available, it’s also common for participants to receive sponsorship from their employer to study.

Luckily Berlin is home to one of the world’s best business schools – ESMT Berlin — so if you’re interested in boosting your professional development through a part-time MBA, you can do so right here in the city.

Business as unusual

ESMT Berlin is a business school that offers MBA, masters, PHD, and executive education programs with a focus on leadership, innovation and analytics. Situated right in the heart of the city on Museum Island, they are committed to fostering the next generation of business leaders who think globally and act responsibly — in fact, sustainability and responsibility are threaded through everything they teach, as are the newest trends in business such as AI.

The part-time MBA provides a flexible curriculum that covers all essential aspects of modern business management. About 25% of the program is delivered in person, and 75% is self-paced study that participants can work through remotely using ESMT’s innovative learning platform, The Hub. For the in-person parts of the program, students attend 14 residencies, the first of which is a full week at ESMT’s campus, combining academic content with team-building activities. Subsequent residencies are typically two and a half days, from Thursday lunchtime to Saturday evening. The program’s final project involves a consulting project ideally with your current employer, where you get the opportunity to apply what you have learned to address a strategic question or challenge. After graduation, ESMT alumni are equipped to reinvent their career and confidently take on the challenges of a role in senior management and higher.
