BERLIN: Symphony of a Metropolis
The classic Berlin film screened with LIVE soundtrack preformed by the 1781 Collective

Mobile KinoThe Berliner, and the 1781 Collective are taking you back to where cinema began: the silent era, where Berlin’s burgeoning film industry in Babelsberg birthed household names such as Fritz Lang (Metropolis, M), F.W. Murnau (Nosferatu, The Last Man), and Walter Ruttmann – one of the greatest avant garde filmmakers of the generation, and the director of BERLIN: Symphony of a Metropolis.

Performing a new, LIVE soundtrack to the film’s screening, featuring classical and electronic musicians, the 1781 Collective will create a sonic bridge between past and present, almost a century after its premiere.

Featuring:
5 String Theory (electric violin and loops) @5.string.theory
Chris Lloyd (piano) @chrislloydpianist
Fanis Gioles (percussion and electronics) @fanis.gioles

About the film:
Capturing scenes from a single day Berlin 1927, Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis delivers an eerie experience: simultaneously depicting a city we know and love, whilst showing scenes of a city that no longer exists. A train arrives at Anhalter Bahnhof, the streets at 5am are almost quiet, with Litfaßsäulen dotting the scenery. As the working day begins, the staircase at Friedrichstrasse start to fill, busy with the steps of our predecessors as they tread the same paths we inhabit today.
