Grandmother and five-month old found after large police operation

Berlin police undertook a large scale effort using helicopters and dogs yesterday to find an elderly woman and her young grandchild who disappeared on Tuesday afternoon. This morning, the pair were found outdoors and have been brought to hospital with suspected hypothermia.

The 72-year old grandmother – Mrs Gebarowska – left Heimsbrunner Strasse in Buckow at around 12.20 on Tuesday afternoon to take a walk toward Britzer Garten with her infant grandchild. She then disappeared and made no contact with the child’s mother, which led to the police operation. The child was believed to be in urgent need of maternal care, but attempts to find the missing duo were unsuccessful despite the combined efforts of police, firefighters, helicopter crews and search dogs.

On Wednesday morning, police confirmed they had found them both outdoors on Wolziger Zeile in Lichtenrade. They are currently being treated in hospital.
