This month’s Exberliner Wednesday features one-woman band Marzipan Marzipan and, back due to popular demand, beat-wizard Lucky Paul, with a special record release.
The face behind Marzipan Marzipan, Italian musician, graphic artist and DJ Zelda Panda writes utterly charming tunes about travel, life in the city and love. Using a 1960s Italian guitar, a looping pedal and a toy keyboard, she works her unique lo-fi magic. Zelda draws on country, jazz, 1980s pop and old Italian crooner classics.
Lucky Paul improvises his beats live from scratch using kitchen utensils, homemade synths and cassette tapes, occasionally taking to the streets powered by car battery. As he floats through Flying Lotus and 8-bit territory, don’t be surprised if a mic drops into your beer. It could end up on a record, such as his new EP on somethinksound records that he’ll be launching on the night.
Included in the modest €5 cover, Exberliner’s DJ Shiner spins kiddie-Schlager till breakfast.
