“Never before have I experienced such a great wave of solidarity, sympathy, so much hopeful, empowering community,” tweeted Green MP Tuba Bozkurt in response to the donations being brought to community centres in Moabit, Wedding and Neukölln on Monday.
Both international and local aid organisations have set up accounts for monetary donations. The Turkish search and rescue association Akut is appealing for funds to assist their active rescue mission. Hasene has also set up a specialised donation account on their website, and the German Red Cross and Caritas International are also taking contributions.
Turkish and Syrian community centres and other organisations in Berlin are readily accepting donations like warm clothing, non-perishable foods, baby products, water, sleeping bags and blankets, which are being shipped to the disaster-stricken areas. Here are some places you can bring donations to:
- Dosteli nursing centre, Emdener Str. 1, Moabit
- BMTK (Konservatorium für türkische Musik), Bergmannstraße 29, Kreuzberg
- Moon Events, Oranienstraße 140-142, Kreuzberg
- Bicer Maschinenbau, Mierstraße 7-9, Neuköln
