Cupcake Bakery

Cupcake Bakery manages to be darling without being cloying and its mismatched furniture and collection of vintage teapots and tablecloths have already attracted enthusiastic photographers. San Fran native, Ashley started out selling her homemade beautifully frosted cupcakes on the flea market but the demand for the diminutive American treat was so great that it warranted opening up her own shop.

The resultant establishment (not to be confused with the café of the same name in Friedrichshain) offers a comfy parlour atmosphere with a collection of board games and a view onto Zionskirche. It makes for a perfect winter’s afternoon. Cosy up with comfort food like cream tea (pastries, scones, tea, €3.75) or afternoon tea (sandwiches, pastries, tea, €6.95), daily soups (€3.50), and quiches (€3). Floats (soda and ice cream, €2.20) and homemade lemonade (€1.50) are hits. And of course, the assortment of cupcakes (€1.80/€1) perches proudly on display: double chocolate, vanilla-butter cream, carrot with cream-cheese frosting, hummingbird (banana with cream-cheese frosting) and more.
