Club Culture and Urban Change
This walking tour offers a closer look at Berlin’s urban life, cultural communities, and how the city’s social, political, and artistic dynamics have developed over time. Focusing on the district of Friedrichshain, the tour moves through areas shaped by Berlin’s division, reunification, and the ongoing transformations of urban space.
We explore how different historical systems have influenced everyday life and continue to leave traces in the built environment, public space, and cultural expressions. Street art, squats, and alternative spaces, as well as post-reunification club culture, reflect the city’s history of resistance, experimentation, and creative autonomy.
The tour will have a special focus on the history and role of Berlin’s club scene. Since the 1990s, many clubs have operated not only as music venues but also as political spaces — connected to local activism, protest movements, and broader debates about urban development and gentrification.
Our tour will be meeting behing at RAW Gelände, Revaler Str. 99 at the main entrance / next to the Bar zum schmutzigen Hobby. , Wittenbergplatz 1, 10789 Berlin. We will meet at 3pm and leave by 3:15.
