In overwhelming and detailed images of nature, Barrie Kosky stages Tchaikovsky’s melancholic psychological drama about the hopes, longings, and failures of four young people who ultimately have to realize that happiness was within their grasp!

When the poet Lenski visits his fiancée Olga and brings his mysterious friend Yevgeny Onegin with him, Olga’s introverted sister Tatyana is smitten. But Onegin harshly rejects Tatyana. Years later, he meets her again – now it is she who refuses to heed his sudden pleas of love …
With Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky made his breakthrough as an opera composer and at the same time made a unique contribution to modern music theater. Barrie Kosky’s production features an opulent stage design that transports the poetry of the characters and their tragedy into the vastness of a natural space.
