This month, the curator/gallerist, musician, writer and radio host Yaneq will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his project Party Arty with a magnanimous birthday fête on Thursday, March 14.

Party Arty brings visual arts to the club, fusing ends that wouldn’t meet elsewhere: from fine arts to urban arts, from electro to hip hop, from poetry to literature. Yaneq is especially interested in presenting artists with a certain edge and attitude that fuses with the music. Most of his events run only for one furious night, as the focus of this project is the complete package: a multiple audio-visual experience.

The ex-rapper started his project in 2003 in the renowned underground club Love Lite in Friedrichshain. Since then, it has evolved into a well-known platform in Berlin’s art and music scene, with a growing audience of around 1500 visitors per event.

The 40 parties have presented around 100 artists from myriad genres such as painting, video art, sculpture and performance. More than 80 DJs have rocked crowds, some 40 live acts have performed and experimented and slam poets and established writers kick off each night with spoken word.

In 2010 Yaneq opened the space Schau Fenster in Kreuzberg as a gallery component to the Party Arty camp, producing the weekly show radio Arty on Flux FM and a monthly panel called Sammlergespräche (collectors’ talks in cooperation with the Berlin-based Kunst Magazin).

Staying true to the nature of the project, the Party Arty birthday event will offer a strong balance between art, music, and spoken word. The art aspect of the evening will be represented through a new piece by the emerging artist 44FLAVOURS (known to be massive, aligning humour with precision, with installations such as a Jacuzzi built from multiple Dixie toilets), a ‘wellness culture’ action by Daniel Chluba and video from Heiner Franzen.
